You will need

  • ice lolly moulds
  • selection of different fruits
  • chopping boards and safety knives
  • apple juice

How to make

Make these with the children in the morning and by teatime these yummy lollies will be ready!

Encourage the children to choose which fruits they would like in their lolly and get them involved in cutting up the fruit if possible, once the moulds are full of fruit, pour over apple juice and then freeze. Remember to put child's initials on the stick so they know which is theirs!

Try this activity to help children learn more about which foods are healthy or not, good for starting conversations about this with children!

What you will need

  • Pictures of different foods, either cut out from magazines, own drawings or printed
  • wooden pegs or lollipop sticks
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Paper
  • Felt tips

How to make

Make the food choice sticks from cut out pictures and then stick them onto a wooden peg or lollipop stick. On a large piece of paper draw a large circle with a line down the middle. Then draw a happy face and a sad face. Talk to the children about the different types of food and then ask them if they think it is healthy or not and which side it should go. Explain to the children why certain food items are considered healthy or not.

How to create

If you already have a home area you can turn it into a fruit and vegetable stall if not use a table with a table cloth and old creates/boxes. Set out a section of food items with name labels on, add a set of scales, bowls and baskets. Add in some books about food, fiction and none fiction, this can be used at story time to really make the session come to life!
