What this looks like in practice
The setting has a food policy in place which covers all aspects of your approach to food and healthy eating and which is actively used and shared. It should be written in consultation with parents/carers as well as listening to the children in your care.
Good communication is the key to ensuring that your written policy is endorsed by all, including staff, children and their parents/carers.
It is important to monitor the policy regularly and address any aspects that are not being adhered to. When the policy is written, ensure all parents/carers and staff have the opportunity to see it, whether this is a printed copy handed to everybody, a copy displayed in the setting or an electric copy added to your website. Likewise, ensure new parents/carers and staff can access a copy when they start and explain how the policy relates to them.
